Car hire in Barbados is one of the best ways to see the island. If you are planning on hiring a car a permit must be obtained to drive in Barbados. All visitors must be over 21 and hold a valid drivers license to obtain a permit. The cost is $10 Barbados dollars. Most Barbados car rental companies will issue the permit for you. The cheapest way to get around Barbados is to take advantage of the local bus services, $1.50 per ride. The Blue and Yellow bus’s will take you all over the island or simply just flag a passing white ‘van’ he’ll stop were you stand and drop you where you ask. It’s one certain way to get close to the locals. Be sure to hang on!
